Dr. Bahu Appointment-Ruth

Diane from Dr. Bahu's office called at 4:15pm this afternoon. She reached Dr. Khaled's office and spoke with Nurse Debbie, Bill can see another Doctor within Dr. Bahu's practice. He now has an appointment for January 3rd to check his device and get an okay from Dr. Kendler to proceed with surgery. The January appointment for the 30th is cancelled, they will do the update on the 3rd.

NOVEMBER 27,28 AND 29TH Ruth

Arrived Tuesday evening, Melissa had already prepared dinner and put out all pills. She said that it had been fairly quiet here all weekend. Jean went out shopping, Bill stayed home and there was an issue with Jay and the Xmas decorations. I can attest that the house was a mess after Jay haphazardly threw the Christmas trees in the house. One was just left in the middle of the dining room, which in Bill's current state is a major trip hazard. I stuffed that one between the chairs and china cabinet. The front yard is only 1/4 done, so he has a lot to do.

I can get his phone number from Cookie- if Joanie really wants it.

Wednesday- was very quiet. Bill remains on his strict 1500 calorie diet without complaint. He has not asked for anything sweet or fattening. He is being really good natured about it. I baked another loaf of Bread, sat in the kitchen with Jean looking through catalogs. She decided on a Harry and David gift for Dudley and Sharon and a patent leather rain coat and watch from Dillards, from Bill. Placed a grocery order and called Kim at the pharmacy to have Jean's pills sent over.

Thursday- Jean woke up early and wanted to get ready for her Birthday girls party, I told her that it wasn't for another 3 weeks. Christine or Joan need to take her,, she called Cookie yesterday to let HER know that it was daughters' or daughters' in law only. They also discussed plans for Saturday, Cookie will send her sister in law and mother to pick up Jean and then meet them at the theater. After the show they want to go out to dinner. Jean suggested the Phoenix Country Club, I called and they do not serve dinner there on Saturdays'. At this point they have no resers, but Bill wants to go out with them.

John here, pharmacy HERE, Safeway here-

Bill's remote isn't working, I gave him another and called Dish network, they will send out new remotes within 5 days.
Tried to weigh Bill, but got an inaccurate reading 155.4lbs.

DID JEAN'S PILLS- THE CAPS BUTTON IS STUCK-
CALLED dr. bahu's office- the secretary can't GET Bill in until Feb- she is in the process of calling Dr. Khaled's office to see if bill can see someone else. i AM calling Khaled's now, left a message with Kathy the office manager. she may call here tomorrow or dr. bahu's office may call- if anyone gets a call from either office please write down the dates. i gave kathy my cell as well as BILL AND JEAN'S home number.

Thanks for all the help on Thanksgiving

I thought Thanksgiving went great and I appreciate all the help you guys gave us with the folks. I think they had a great time.

I would appreciate it if you guys could do the Christmas decorations. If Jay has any questions about that, he can call me. Do you have a phone number for him and I can buzz him up and head that off at the pass?

Great idea on buying a carpet cleaner...I have one that I use all the time. If the carpets need doing, here is Paul's number 480-343-9680. He has a major deep steamer and sometimes (after accidents?) the carpet really needs the deep steamer.

Thanks for going to Steinmart...and taking back what won't be used. *smile* I think that heads off some problems...and I know where the reciepts are!

I am planning on going to Kahled with you on 12/18 for Jean.

Joanie

Steam Cleaner-Ruth

Just to update about the carpets- I personally went out and bought a steam cleaner 2 days after the dogs disappeared and cleaned all the carpets upstairs and down with it. The few doggie spots that were left on the carpet... were cleaned with a heavy solution of carpet cleaner, vinegar and baking soda. I hardly think the carpets are "disgusting" and there is absoulutely no trace of urine in the living room or downstairs. Bill and Jean's room is another story, there are some spots from accidents that either Bill or Jean have had and their room needs a deeper cleaning.

melissa sunday 11-25- tuesday 11-27

I arrived on Sunday at 12pm, shortly there after jean and i went to meet cookie at steinmart .A shopping trip her and cookie had arranged, i decided it was best go along. Jean went through the store in a supermarket sweep type of fashion. when we got to the shoe department things got interesting as jean insisted that she has a narrow foot, two narrow feet!, as we tried to wedge her post surgical very non narrow foot into a pointed toe shoe , that was too small, she further insisted that she can wear, and i quote"a six inch heel , but not a ten inch", as if they make ten inch heels, and even if they did i am certain they would not be sold at steinmart. any way jean did some damage in the spending department , however when we got home and went through the clothes the next day i was able to convince her that several of the items were the wrong size, she wanted to see if they had her correct size ,so Jennifer took her back to steinmart to exchange/return some of the items. we also went to Pier 1, where jean stocked up on Christmas items and small gifts. She did not spend that much there, cookie did not come to Pier 1 with us.
Tuesday jay came he tried to convince jean that cookie needed to come decorate , because she knew where every thing went , jean told her that i had done a pretty good job of decorating already,(which i came in Saturday to do)he still kept on that Cookie needed to come do it. then he started bickering at me saying ,1. the lights were not where they were supposed to be ,2. that half were broken ,and 3, that they were not all there i went into the garage and it looked like there were all the lights there and then he said that there were boxes of brand new unopened lights that were not there, and who ever took them down messed every thing up, and again cookie had to come in to put up all the outside lights cause only she knows where they go! yeah , ahh ,didn't he take them down , oh and cookie is like 65 years old,? i really cant see her climbing up the palm trees , under bushes ,ect. , to put all the lights. John came at 3:30 and worked with jean, for a hour,. Jean was very lively today. Also jennifer got bill a scale , he is on a 1500 calorie diet and has already lost several pound since his weigh in at the doctors , where he weighed 145, today on this scale he weight 138.8 , we are recording his weight every other day on the calender.he seems excited to see his progress.

jennifer

I will update the BLOG on last weekends events this week, sorry I didnt have the time to do it, Bill is monitored very very closely due to being on COREG very high risk of dizzness. Also quick points

1. Returned Jeans clothes she didnt want from Steinmart, and had it returned to card.
2. Jean and I went to CVS and she bought Bill a scale, and some xmas oranaments that can be engraved and a few cleanesers etc. Reciept in drawer. Trader Joes for some snacks/ flowers/cheeses/crackers Jean wanted.
3. Jean and I had talked about having the rugs cleaned, and the cost, and how frequent it needs to be done, so we decided it would be a good investement to buy a steamer, I saw a really really good one that is highly recc by the queen of clean and consumer reports, I bought it and the solution for it, and this weekend I will do many areas in the house. As you know from the nasty little dogs that were here using the inside of the house as a toilet, and jeans various "accidents' around her bed, as well as Bill's food/urine accidents around his chair and the bed, lets not forget the downstairs bedroom! ukh. Anyway its really really easy to use, just watch the solution so we dont run out, you can buy the generic Bissell cleaner, I got the pet soil and odor one.

4. Also many many lights new in boxes outside.. Despite jay telling melissa one of us took them.. I wonder which Muslim in the bunch wanted xmas lights ? lol

Anyway thats all for now.

UPDATE RuTh

Pills delivered at 6:15pm- filled boxes accordingly.

November 21 Ruth

Thanks Joanie for the update, I will stay with Bill in the hospital the entire time.
We got home today at 4:50pm, I immediately called Nurse Debbie to find out if she had already called the pharmacy about the prescription. The office had already closed for the holiday and will not reopen until Monday. I left a message with the answering service to have the on call nurse call me back to make sure the prescrip was submitted, waiting on that call.

Bill is officially on a diet, and Jean has made it her duty to watch everything that BiLL puts into his mouth and suggested we call Nutri System to have meals delivered. I don;t know how serious she is about this, but she even ordered lunch for Bill, wouldn;t let him talk.

After the Khaled appointment, we went to the gas station to fill up, stopped at See's and picked up a bunch of candy. Then went to Lesueur's, once in the parking lot Jean said "what are we here for, I don;t want to see him today." She asked me to cancel the appoinment. So I went inside and told the front desk that Jean wasn't feeling well and wanted to cancel the appointment. The woman told me that is fine, just to reschedule for later. We went to Lynn's to pick up her pants and picked up Bill's shirts that have been there since July. Then had lunch at the Quilted Bear.

***Just so everyone knows- we started the xmas decorating yesterday- the house is a mess**** Good Luck to whomever gets to finish it!!!

Walking into the house, Bill ran into that Bowl of Glass balls, Jean had sitting under the a/c controls and broke all of them. They are now in the trash. It is a good idea to clear the hallway and kitchen of any obstacle. Keep all of Jean's christmas decor out of Bill's way. I also moved the basket and umbrellas from the hallway.

We spent the entire day out today and I did not get to witness any of Bill's fainting spells, thank God. I was really worried about being out with both of them today alone. I took them in to each place separately and made sure that Bill was seated before I got Jean. According to Dr. Khaled he needs to avoid almost all physical activity, so I tried to keep him as rested as possible.

Dr. Khaled also wants us to continue with the weekly Coumadin check at Dr. Farooqui's, Khaled gets the results every week and he wants this monitored very closely.

Just got a call from Dr. Khaled personally- he doesn't know if the nurse called in the prescription, if she didn;t it is not a problem. He can start the new pills on Monday.

Off to make Rum Cream Pie and Fruit Salad....

Bill Sr. Cardiology Results

Bill Sr.'s shortness of breath is caused by his heart not squeezing adequately. This has two causes. One is blockage of the arteries and the other is that his valves are leaking a small amount. If you would like more details, I will gladly give them to you, but the bottom line is that Bill needs to have an angiogram done 1/14. This will involve putting in a small baloon and opening up the arteries. They will also put in a stent (mesh tube) to keep the arteries open. The *expected* result is that he will get more oxygen and all of him will work better. He should take less falls, be more alert, be able to cross a room without becoming SOB (for purposes of this email, this stands for short of breath, not Sweet Old Bill).

1. Dr. Kahled has scheduled the angiogram for Scottsdale North. Bill will be in the hospital overnight. Can one of you stay with Jean and one with Bill?

2. Please make an appointment with Dr. Bahu for the first week in January to have his pacemaker/defibrillator RE-checked to make sure that he is ok for this surgical procedure.

3. Please call Dr. Kahled 1/7 and get instructions re: medicines that must be stopped before the procedure. My understanding is that you talk directly with the doctor.

4. Please take Bill the week of 1/1/08 and have the lab work done. Ruth has the paperwork, given to her by Kahled's office this morning.

5. NO SALT. NO salty foods, no anything that might make him retain fluids.

6. Dr. Kahled would like Bill to lose 10-20 pounds before the procedure.

7. Dr. Kahled says Bill can do NO EXERCISE.

8. Bill has a new prescription that will strengthen his upper heart for this procedure. It should also alleviate some of the SOB.

Could you please make the appointments, etc. and let me know when they are? I will be there. Thank you ladies. We all appreciate every one of you. Joanie

November 19- Ruth

Ruth in/ Jennifer out-7am-

Jennifer filled me in on what happened over the weekend, she told me that Bill's walking is getting increasingly worse. Jennifer told me that he almost fell on three different occasions, she is not sure why this new malady has come on so suddenly. I will keep a close eye on Bill for the next few days. We have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday and I am really hoping that someone will come in to stay with Jean, it may be a little too difficult to walk with both of them at the same time.

Breakfast on the table by 9am- Jean and I went over the recipe for the Rum Cream Cake- and ingredients. Made a grocery list of essentials. Placed a grocery order, stripped their beds, Maria showed at 11ish. Gave Jean a shower and got her ready for John, John here at 2:30pm.

Jean came out to the kitchen afterwards, she had some tea and cookies and read magazines.

Dinner at 6pm- both back to room. Helped Jean get ready for bed at 7:30pm, brushed her teeth, washed her face. Both are watching Vertigo a movie that came in the mail.

FRIDAY/SATURDAY 17TH JENNIFER

Pretty busy weekend, I arrived at 10am Friday, Bill 90% ready to go to Dr.F he was really taking his time getting ready, Melissa kept running back and forth to help him while really trying to encourage him to be independent too. We left for Dr. F and ended up sitting in waiting room, I didn't see one other patient in the whole place, yet we waited and waited. An endless stream of "students" of all sorts came in and asked and re asked Bill the same questions, we all know how Bill loves to be re asked questions! Anyhow we finally get his coumadin INR done and its 1.4 on 5mg of warfarin which we will continue to have him on. I'm going to work on the machine as it really frustrates me that it doesn't work, and I told that to Dr. F and he said some where bad, so I will bring it with me. I also spoke to dr. Farooqui about Bills shortness of breath, he said a breathing treatment would be great idea, and wanted to try a short acting bronchodialator, first, one puff in am and one puff in pm. so he exhales then he inhales while inhaler in his mouth and you have to pump it one time. I also picked up stool for occult blood test, which after Melissa's thorough instructions Bill did himself.. however I had to put it in a plastic bag to be placed in fridge, to keep it fresh until it can be dropped off to Doctor.

Came back after what seemed like forever, got prescription for inhaler, if it works out we need new script from farooqui for more. OKAY Bill's unsteady gait. Its getting really really bad, you wont notice it if he is just going to the bathroom, but if he needs to walk beyond that he tells me "I'm falling, I'm going down. This is getting to be very dangerous, not only is a major fall impending but Jean has started to say she doesn't need help with things so that the help can be given to Bill. I m really really worried about Bill and I feel that if he were gonna fall, if will be devastating. Jean really rides Bill and may seem to nag him, she only means well and thinks that his weakness is just him being lazy. She has told him that Bill needs to work with John again,m but only if Bill is rally gonna go ahead and work with John and not just stretch and let him lay in bed.
Jean and Bill both showered from head to toe. Scrubbed Bill from head to toe, really scrubbed, him and his hair/scalp especially. Really lotioned him up good, and gave Jean a really good oiled up shower with steam. Did Jeans hair and makeup, got her dressed, Bill cleaned up and dressed also. He was very very helpless during the whole time, Jean continued to yell at Bill for being helpless, but he really needed help especially getting his socks on and brushing his hair. We need to address the unsteady gait and risk of falling immediately. I have removed all unsafe objects out of the way, (throw rugs, newspapers, shaky tables, wastebaskets, etc.) I also placed a chair in the hall way so that he can sit immediately if he needs to.

House cleaned up, all dishes cleaned and emptied, ran laundry, folded myriad of sheets leftover. Emptied all the garbage's in the house and refilled trash cans. Restocked up toilet papers, and towels around the house. Sam's club working out really well, we have a great supple of much needed staples in the house.

Jean really had lots of fun yesterday and wants to go to the museum, she mentioned Melissa is gonna take her and wanted me to remind her that they are closed on Monday's. Jean and Bill ready to go, we went out to Lon's at the Hermosa inn, Bill had a pretty good time, Jean loved it and was happy to get out of the house.

thursday november 15-friday november 16th

On Thursday i arrived at 1:10 , Shortly there after Bill and i left for the doctor .The therapist saw him first, then after 2 hours we saw the PA, then AFTER nearly 2 1/2 hours we saw the doctor for 5 minutes .The determination was that his defibrillator battery will last about 6 more months , and that he also needs to have a second wire put in on the other side of the defib so that the heart will beat with a pushing motion instead of being only pushed on one side as it is now, thereby creating a swishing motion.he will be lightly sedated , and have to stay over night for one night .Bill is scheduled to go back to this dr bahue on the 30th of January at 12:45 , his defib will be checked the doctor will go over every thing and then schedule the battery change and the extra wire insertion. bill and i got home at 415.

Fridays highlights - Jennifer took bill to get his coumidin levels checked , and pick up his stool sample kit, after that they dropped off his prescription at walgreens.while i sat with jean charlea arrived at 1245 and gave jean a nice long massage. After that i showered her, did her hair and makeup and dressed her. jean and i went to the nail salon , they told us there was a hour wait, so we took the opportunity to do the other things we had planned.Next we went to the big and tall store to have 3 pairs of pants hemmed for jean, then we headed to to walgreens to get bill prescription and a few things jean wanted , i got her several packages of new makeup sponges , as well as new eye makeup brushes , which i think will lessen her eye irritation, we also got a few other toiletries. Then it was back to the nail salon , jean got a Mani and pedi in the french manicure style. It came out great. After that we we next door to pickup dinner at soma cafe , jean got lettuce wraps and bill got meatloaf. we finally arrived home shortly after 630. i got jean into her nightie and Jennifer got the food assembled . jean was pretty tiered from being out all day, she said that she had a great time!

Just a thought- Ruth

Last week at Birthday girls, Jean told the ladies about her new hair salon and how fun it would be if the girls got their hair done at Way Cool.

I was thinking::: let's plan a birthday celebration for Jean's birthday girls. They could get their hair done all punk rock.. spiked up and colored pink, green and blue. We could get those spiky dog collars, fake nose rings, and tatoo arm bands. After that they could have lunch at some dive in the ghetto close to the salon. What do you guys think??? This is Jean's 85th birthday, let's have fun with it. She really enjoyed dressing up for Christopher's "tacky" birthday party, I think she would have more fun planning and dressing up for her own birthday party.

November 13,14,15 Ruth

Came in early to have a cup of coffee with Wedad. Spoke to Jay for a couple of minutes and got a high five from him about the sudden disappearance of the vermin others like to call cats. Made coffee and sat down with Wedad about what has been happening over the weekend. She told me that everything had been relatively quiet, Jean was very happy when she came home and told Wedad all about Gracie birthday party and how fun it was. Wedad also told me that Bill has been abnormally helpless and extremely needy, calling her every minute for something very simple. This is troubling news, he seems to be declining very rapidly. This helplessness has come on so suddenly that I tend to think that it is less physical than emotional. He has been getting an extraordinary amount of attention from doctors and nurses that he may think he needs it when he gets home, we should break this habit as soon as possible and encourage him to do things on his own.

Tuesday afternoon was quiet, Jean rested for most of the afternoon. I placed a grocery order for staple items and ingredients for the fruit salad Jean wants to take to Skip and Joan's for Thanksgiving. I can not find the recipe for a Rum chocolate cream concoction. If anyone else knows where it is, please put somewhere safe. Made dinner, Bill wouldn;t touch it, asked for cereal instead. After dinner both went back to their room to watch a movie we got from Netflix called "The Watcher in the Woods" with Bette Davis. They watched it for about an hour and then shut it off. Jean said "it was just awful." Lights out by 10pm

Both were very restless all night....

Bill called me into his room at 8am, to get his OJ... how disappointing... he normally gets up every morning walks to the kitchen, opens the fridge and takes the cup of OJ that I leave for him the night before. He also turns off the outdoor lights and unlocks the front door. For him to call me to get his OJ is a real step back.

Jean asked me what time she was supposed to go out with Cookie. I heard from Wedad that Cookie and Jean were supposed to go out, but she wasn't sure when. So I called Cookie and she told me that she would be here at 12pm.
Cookie arrived, groceries delivered, Cookie and Jean left.

I asked her to stop by See's candy, Jean says she needs English Toffee for the Rum cake.

They arrived home by 6pm. Didn't buy that much stuff. They went to Saks, Talbots, Pottery Barn, and Williams and Sonoma. I asked Cookie for the receipts and she told me they were in the bags. I have'nt gone through all the bags yet, to find receipts. The Pottery Barn bags had three receipts and it looked like most of the stuff on the receipts was there. Jean bought a lot of picture frames and lockets. Talbot's bags had some workout/pajamas. I will have totals later on today.

Spoke with Jennifer, Wedad and Melissa. Melissa will come in early today and take Bill to see Farooqui and Bahu. I called Jennifer to get a more complete patient history ON Bill, for the forms that Dr. Bahu's office sent out. She gave me all the information that I needed.

Also asked Wedad and Jennifer about a few charges on the Chase mastercard that seemed inconsistent. Three in particular. Borders, Target and Walmart. Jennifer told me that the Borders charge was on a day that she and Jean went shopping and Jean bought some calenders, planners, stationary and a few books. Target: purses, pantyhose, socks, jewelry, clothes for Jean, staples for the house etc. so the mystery is solved.

Evening quiet.

Bill up early this morning, GOT HIS OWN OJ!!!! Cookie called at the crack of dawn (8am), to ask about some pan she saw at Linen's n Things. She claims Jean wants a roasting pan and saw one at Williams and Sonoma that she was going to buy and Cookie told her "oh no Jean I know where you could find one much cheaper," good ol'Cookie, always trying to save Jean some money.

Christine also called and will stop by sometime today, to pick up the Egyptian stuff and drop off Jean's purse.

Bill out to kitchen for breakfast, Jean still snoozing.

Jean up.. Christine here she stayed and hung out for awhile. Talked to Jean about Cookie the Menace and Jean was polite and explained her position Diplomatically. Jean seems to think that Cookie is very lonely and Jean needs to entertain her. Interesting take on the situation, but whatever works.

I am glad that we had a fairly quiet week, nothing major to do. Next week will be different, but, I am looking forward to it. I think that Melissa may come in on Wednesday to help out with our various appointments but I am not 100% on that one.
Have a good weekend

Breakfast:

Oatmeal w/ cream
raspberry danish
toast w/ cream cheese (for jean)
coffee (bill & jean)

Both waited on the table until Jay arrived. Altho they didnt have anything for him to do. I told him about the drip system missing a head.

Cleaned bedroom, changed Jeans sheets because she had an accident. Made beds, emtpied trash, set up fresh ice water. Bill headed back to Murder she wrote.

Cleaned the rest of the house, kitchen, altho Jay kept tracking dirt all over the kitchen. Dr Bahu office called to confirm for thursday @ 2pm. Spoke to Joan (yesterday) about tickets. Tried to call Cookie, not answering. Ruth said she would try.

Monday, November 12, 2007

November 12th

Morning started quite well. Bill was up @ 830am. Jean still snoring away. Bill turned the TV on and pretty loud, but Jean slept through it all. Brought both out to the table @ 930am for breakfast:

Poached Eggs
Toast w/ jam
Bacon (Bill)
danish
coffee (both)
apple juice (jean)
orange juice (bill)
banana (bill)

Read their newspapers. Cleaned the bedroom, emptied trash cans, fresh ice water. made beds. Bill came back to the room to inform me that the water in the house still has a funny taste. Jennifer bought new water filters last week, so it cant be the filter. Instead I put an arm & hammer baking soda in the freezer. Jean says there is nothing wrong with the water at all.

Both resting after breakfast. watching murder she wrote. Jean informed Bill that altho this was Veteran's day, she would not spend the day watching war movies. Cleaned the kitchen, swept/mopped floor.

Lunch time:
Chicken salad sandwich (Bill) + chips
Chicken Salad on bed of lettuce, feta cheese, vinegrette
hershey bar (jean)
ice tea (jean)
gingerale (bill)

Got Jean ready for her exercise appt with John @ 230pm. Washed up, got into her jumpsuit, sneakers. Even got hand brace ready. Set up the hallway with chair and the hangy bar for Jean to practice on.

John arrived at 230pm and worked out with Jean until 340pm. John had a conversation with Bill, but Bill still not interested in exercising anymore. Called me up to refill his gingerale and remove his lunch dishes.

Both are resting back in their room. Watching dvd's. Jean wanted to bring back her family photo album so she can look at old pictures of her grandmother and other ancestors. Her and John had gone through it and she said she never realized how much Katherine looked like her grandmother.

Brought Jean and Bill into the kitchen for dinner. Had them sit with me to explain how they like their steaks. Both ate their entire plate, altho Bill (for some reason) chewed up some pieces and spit them out. The steak was very soft, and Jean ate hers completly, Medium Rare (which is difficult for me to prepare since my family only knows how to cook it until even leather is softer-LOL).

Washed up for bed, Jean took a shower. Bill washed his face and brushed his teeth, said he would shower tomorrow. Tonight they shut the lights off at 915pm. Bill called me upstairs to tell me that he was missing tylenol. Then that he was out of Tums. Also his water tasted funny, gave him a new glass and still said he didnt like it, would rather have gingerale.

Up at 215 because Blankets were all twisted. Had to remake the bed. Jean snored through everything.

November 11th

First of all, Happy Bday Jennifer!!

Arrived to find Jean resting back in her room. She was very excitted about the whole event. She and Bill talked for almost 2 hours about how everything was perfect, and how princess Grace was so glamorous and lady-like. I prepared a quick lunch, Jean said she wasnt hungry because she already ate with Chris, but once food was served she decided she was hungry.

Cheese Crisp
Tomatoe Soup
Ginger Ale (Bill)
Lemonade (Jean)
Cinnamon Cake (Bill)
Hershey Bar (Jean)

Both relaxing back in the room. Watching oldies. Decided to do a Sams Order, for the major items that go through so quickly. Receipt left to show items purchased.

Jean called me into the room to tell me about a restaurant she has heard about and wanted to know I thought about it. Called Pita Jungle. I honestly I have never been there, so for dinner we decided to try it. I found a location on 44th Street and Indian School. Once there, Bill did not want to enter-instead gave them the menu and we ordered. Took take out, Bill did not have any cards on him, said wallet was on his table. I paid for the dinner. *PS-personally did not like the food* Bill wasnt too hip on the food. Tried a pita sandwich-fell apart in his hands. Instead they tried the sampler platter with various dips and the mango shrimp. Those they enjoyed. saved left overs for tomorrow.

After dinner, both washed up for bed. Had Bill wash his face and brush his teeth. If you dont stand over him, he wont do it. I have noticed that he will wet his towel and dap his face. Fresh ice water in their rooms, turned down the beds, got into bed clothes and finished the night watching their new new DVD.

Lights went out at 10:15pm, late I know.

Bill woke up only two times during the night, 1am and 445am.

HAPPY BDAY TO ME... I AM 33 LOL IT Rhymes!

SUNDAY 11/11

Last night was really hard, Jean talked all night, really in depth conversations with waiters, little boys, horses, and Uncle Dudley (?) Normally her talking doesn't even phase me, however she was so animated, laughing, conversing etc. Bill told her a couple of times "your just taking in your sleep Jeanie" and she would respond "why Bill no I am not talking in my sleep, there's a little boy here and hes playing with mothers music box.. hes gonna break it. So I went up stairs and told Jean to sort of arouse her, that its 145am nobody is here, there's no little boy etc. She was fine. As I was walking downstairs I heard Bill say.. "now just go back to bed" and Jean said "I will now that the Chinese gal just shooed away that little boy." LOL. Bill up alot last night for his covers, he always calls me and says " my beds all broken" does any of the other girls have any insight? I ask him what he means and he says " all the covers are coming apart." So this am when I made the bed I really tucked the corners in good, I assume that's what he

Jean up at 620, she had accident in her bed, it smelled really bad like old urine, I had just been in the room at 430 with Bill so I'm not sure when she had it but it smelled old, she had no c/o burning or pulling sensation, she has been drinking adequate water, and when she voided it was quite a lot, so I don't suspect a UTI. I stripped the beds, washed the sheets in hot water, and re made beds. Showered Jean and got her all gussied up with tons of jewels and her crown, she was the Queen Mum for the kids party. She was all ready and dressed by 8am, she looked great.

Christine arrived at 930 am took Jean to party, they aren't back yet. Bill had huge breakfast, and still wanted several snacks after. House all cleaned up, all sheets new, all garbage's empty, refilled with what few bags we have left. Cleaned up Bills bathroom even tightened his seat up, as it was so loose it was practically all the way to the right of the toilet bowl.

Bill walking a little better, I think he likes using the walker, but I don't want him to get used to it either. House tidied up, all linens in house cleaned, all garbage's done and dishwasher running.

I agree with the girls that sams club, or costco, is a good idea, because the amount we spend on staples is really getting to be obnoxious. The usual ie oj, milk, tide, cleaning products and even some cereals and snack that Bill/Jean eat consistently can be purchased without having to buy them weekly and spend money on the 10 dollar delivery charge either.

Jean back at 1230 really had a great time.. she was amazed at home parties are for kids these days and how she wish they would have had them when she was throwing parties. She is gonna plan to have the Amanda come over to pick up presents. She went on a little tirade about Amanda starting CNA classes this week and how she shouldn't have to work since she has kids etc. Bill and her arguing about working when you have kids is wrong. So funny how our roles change now. She had a really nice lunch with Christine at Chipotle too. Ps if she is looking for her big Yellow coldwater creek sack/purse she gave to Christine as she liked it so much. Just FYI if she cant remember where it went.

Changed Bills evening coumadin to 5mg for 7 days, didn't do any extra weeks as it seems to be changing weekly. Wedad here I'm out 3pm

FRIDAY9TH SATURDAY 10TH JENNIFER

Arrived at 11am on Friday, Jean sitting in kitchen, eating breakfast, Bill starting to get ready to go to Dr. F to pick up stool for guiac test, and go to V's. Bill slow to get ready, asked for cereal after massive breakfast Melissa had made him. Reminded him about Dr. Khalids suggestion that he cut back a little, but he insisted he is very hungry. Gave him small bowl of cereal and more decaf. Continued to prompt him to get ready. 1145, we finally left, I had doubts we would reach Farooqui in time, but headed that way anyhow. As I suspected the office closed, even though I could hear them talking in the door, they didn't open, the main foyer had a note that they will be closed on Monday the 12th in observance of Veterans day which is Sunday.

Bill a little ancey, wanted to use the men's room, took him inside the foyer to a bathroom, he was very very unsteady on his feet. Had him sit a about 5 min and got him water to drink. We left and he wanted to head over to JB, went to bank and we inquired as to why the ATM cards don't work or only work sporadically, the girl there was really unhelpful, she was not comprehending that Bill doesn't know his account numbers, or his ssn or the date his accounts where open or how many he has and the last deposit.... I was aggravated, so I took her aside and said he is elderly and his son takes care of all his finances, he just wants to know why the ATM card never works, and your demeaning him by asking him 8 questions that he keeps telling you I cant remember. SO this really nice lady receptionist had this girl Imelda help us, who was more than happy to help Bill just with the info on his license. She reset the pin to the last four of the home number, she had us activate it in the ATM, well it ate it 4 times ! it kept saying invalid pin your card has been retained. So she determined it was a bad batch of cards JB had issued and many many customers have complained. SO she will send out new cards.

We headed over to V's after the bank fiasco, Bill retailed how easy it use to be to get your own money out, and told me about his dad Frank and the banking business of the early 1900's. V's was really packed! Friday at 130 is not a good time to go. The barber was nice enough to ask a few patrons to allow Bill to go ahead. Bill had the royal treatment!. He had the whole VIP with facial and shoe shine! he was really happy and his barber and him talked the whole time about California, and gliders and baseball. Bill was really perky when we left.

Headed home, as Melissa called she was about to make lunch for Jean and wanted to know how far we where. Home.. arrived and Maria was mopping the hall way, so I was going to take him to the Laundry room way, but it too was wet, started walking with Bill and he said, I cant I cant I cant stand, I'm going down I'm falling, I immediately put my knee under the seat of his pants and grabbed him in case I had to slide him to the ground, its hard as Bill wants to hold on so tight to your wrist, which makes it hard to try to "save" him from falling or at least safely slide him to the ground. Fortunately Maria had front door open, and I asked her to give me the new red walker, so I can flip it around for Bill. I was able to get him to the chair to rest, I asked him what happened?, did you feel dizzy? or out of breath? He said his knees just give out suddenly and he wants to go right down. I asked if he feels woozy at all and he said he doesn't feel winded or dizzy, just literally as if someone knocked his knees out from under his legs. Melissa served him his lunch and Jean was really badgering him that he doesn't move or exercise etc, I felt bad for him as he looked really scared, understandably. I wanted to have Melissa shower Jean, as she wanted to go to SAKS, but Maria had just started Jeans bathroom. They ate lunch and Bill started for the bathroom, I ran to watch him, he used the walker and did just fine.

4pm. Jean wanted to get out of the house, she was disappointed in missing shopping with Cookie on the 7th due to Bills numerous appointments. So Melissa took her down to the Mills outlet, as she can do much less damage there than at Saks retail store.. and no make up/ skin care counters there.

They came back at 9pm, Jean had a ball!. She really enjoyed her time out and was telling me everything she saw. She didn't do much damage.. for Jean, she bought a brown swing dress, a really nice velour track suit, and some sandals, a couple leather purses from Wilsons and leather and leather fur trimmed gloves too (for skiing) (that's what she told Melissa) They went and had a some dinner at an old fashioned dinner/soda shop in the Mills mall, which Jean just adored and said it reminded her of places she and Bill went as teens.

She wanted to continue shopping but couldn't as her eyes are really really bad! Melissa told she aughta call it a day and get home, take a benydryl and wash off all her eye makeup. When she walked in the door it look like someone took red lipstick and circled around her eyes. Melissa changed her and got her wash clothes to soak off makeup, today its a million times better, I think we need to switch to Almay for sensitive eyes. Melissa brought in the packages, and left receipts in the fishbowl and said good night to them at 930.

Both are doing really well, I can see that they are worn out from a very long week of running around, but Jean glad she was able to get out to Target the other day (PS tons of new Xmas stuff in the scary room for decorating) and the Mills mall. Both had a large breakfast this am and reading Sat paper.

November 8- Ruth

We had a very eventful 24 hours. I was awoken twice last night by Bill who was unusually concerned about Jean talking in her sleep. Both times I told her that she was simply dreaming and she quickly went back to sleep. She was very restless last night, both of them were. Jean tends to get so excited about an event planned the next day that she becomes restless and can't sleep. I think that coupled with Bill's testing this morning made the night much longer than it normally is.

Bill was awake by seven, he watched a little TV and by 7:30am I asked him to start getting ready. I showered him again and scrubbed him down good. Helped him dry off and shaved what little stubble was left. Bill got dressed. Jennifer arrived by 8:15am, and we were off. Traffic was unusually bad and we were late to our 8:40am appointment. Joan met us at the curb and we quickly rushed into the office. Yesterday the tech told Joan and I that only one of us would be allowed to stay with Bill today because of the cramped space. Joan took the first shift, by 9:30am they were back in the lobby. Joan told me that Bill did very well, but began to feel woozy and flushed. Joan had to leave after that and I stayed with Bill for the next 1 1/2 hours until the tech called us back for the pictures. He had another 32 pictures taken, but it took longer than yesterday.

We were out of the office by 11am, I called Jennifer from the car and asked her to make some poached eggs for Bill, his special request. I would have picked them up from the quilted Bear, but they stop serving breakfast at 10:30am. Also called Farooqui's to ask that they call in a prescription for 5mg of Coumadin, the doctor F has temporarily changed the mg. until Bill is healed from his fall and until we can get his INR stabilized. They said they would.

Once home I quickly changed, threw on some make up and hairspray and then Jean and I left to have lunch with the B-day girls. As Jean was walking out of the house she told me that her eyes had began to burn and were red and watery, she looked very tired and her movements were very slow. I asked her if she wanted to stay home and rest and she adamantly said no. Once we arrived at the restaurant she perked right up and was her normal self only with sunglasses. Jean enjoyed catching up with the girls, we stayed 2 hours and then left. As I was putting her in the car, she asked if we could stop by Saks. We didn't end up going, but she has been asking for a few weeks. Maybe someone could plan a shopping trip and take her to all these shops she has been asking about. Just a thought.

Called pharmacy about sending more Depends, the girl took a message for Kim, but I am not sure Kim got it. Kim is the lady that normally handles our orders and if the Depends do not get delivered just call the pharmacy and ask for her, she will take care of it.

That's all- have a good weekend!

November 7 Ruth

Night went very smoothly, Bill and Jean watched a movie that we received from Netflix called My Favorite Wife. Jean was complaining about her foot, she could barely walk on it last night, I helped her to the bathroom and then we put an ice pack on her ankle.

Bill had no Coumadin last night per Farooqui, and I took out his Lasix, Potasium, Diovan and Metformin for the morning pills.

Had breakfast on the table at nine, Bill needed to stop eating and drinking by 9:45am. Wedad called about today's events and I asked her if anyone could come in. I called Melissa and left a message, Wedad called Jennifer and Jennifer said she would be glad to come in.

After breakfast, I gave Bill a long hot shower and scrubbed him head to toe. I also scrubbed his scalp for a good 2 minutes. He wouldn't shave himself so I also shaved his long overgrown beard. Dried him off and then he got his socks and boxers on. Jennifer arrived, she baked cookies for Jean who was still in the kitchen reading catalogs and then helped Bill get dressed. I went downstairs to get ready and gather the kittens.

The original plan was to get the cat and kittens leave the house early and deliver them to "kitten rescue," getting them in a box was more of an ordeal than originally planned. After getting 4 of them into a box, I grabbed the 5th hissing mongrel to put in the box and the little monster turned around and bit me!!! After being in contact with animal control the week prior I knew that a bite qualified us for a pick up. So I immediately called, Jennifer then came down and asked what happened. I told her "your vicious rodents bit me," she poured hydrogen peroxide on my finger and took the phone from me to wait for the Maricopa animal people to get on phone. Jennifer gave them our information and my information(for my potential rabies/worm infection) and they said a truck would be sent out within the next 4 hours to set out traps.

Got Bill in the car and headed out to Farooqui's, Coumadin was checked and the INR is 1.7 today. Coumadin is knocked down to 5mg and Farroqui wants to see Bill in 2 weeks. Far. also wants Bill to see a urologist, but it isn't an immediate issue can wait a few weeks. He wants to monitor Bill closely and wants Bill to take it easy for awhile. I asked the doctor about the Coumadin machine being recalibrated and he said bring it in any time.

Had time to kill, took the Caddy to fill up and wash- that killed about 20 minutes. Got to the testing center early and had to wait. Once inside the Nuclear medicine administrator explained the entire proedure for both days and made sure that Bill understood what was going to be happening. Injected Bill with a solution to allow the machine to scan images of his heart at a resting pace. Also talked to her about the medications to hold. Joan and I were given different instructions that only thing I need to hold tomorrow is the Lasix and the caffeine. Tomorrows test is going to be much more difficult for Bill than today. They will inject with Adenosine, "don't quote me on that." but it is a chemical that will mimic strenous exercise on his heart. The woman told us that Bill would not feel well while he was undergoing this process and may become flush. They will monitor his heart tomorrow for about an hour and a half. Today's office visit was the easy part. Had a couple of bathroom breaks and then to the car. Bill wanted to go home, so we did.

Once home I was pleasantly surprised to find the dog catcher truck in front of the house. Apparently Jennifer and the DOg catcher caught all the kittens and cat. DING DONG, the nasty cats are gone!!! The cats will be tested and quarantined for rabies and worms and they will let us know what the results are.

Everything is quiet. Jennifer and Jean went to Target to pick up some much needed supplies and I order dinner from Busters. Got Jean out of the house for a bit!

INR- 1.7
Coumadin cut to 5mg
Weighed in at 245lbs.

Calender Update-Ruth

In the gmail account there is a calender page, if any events come up they can be added to the calender for all to view.

The calender button is in the up left hand corner of the gmail was.caregivers account. I have added most of the appointments and Joan added the Thanksgiving/football party. Anyone that has access our email can view and add dates. Maybe we could color code for different things, I don;t know if that is an option though.

November 6 Ruth

I arrived at 9:00am to find Bill dressed and ready to go to his appointment. Charlae told me that he had been asking for food for the last hour or so. I told Bill that we would hurry. I noticed Bill had a peculiar malodorous odor, I asked Charlae if he showered and she told me that he refused. I am not sure if we can attribute this to his sore back or if this is a new phase of his refusal to bathe properly. Either way I talked to Jean about it and she agreed to start coaxing Bill to be more hygienic, Jean has a knack for getting Bill to do what she wants.

Bill and I arrived at Sonora Labs and walked right in. I was unable to find his AETNA insurance card and there is a possibility we may get a bill for a few of the tests not covered by Medicare. The phlebotomist took 5 vials of blood from Bill and had to use 2 different needles. While she was changing needles I ordered breakfast from the Quilted Bear for Bill to go. He loves their eggs benedict, we left the lab and picked up breakfast and drove home.

Once home, Jean was at her desk, we talked shortly and Charlae got her ready for her massage. I served Bill his breakfast and then started on his pill boxes. Got the majority of them done, but we are short of Lunesta. I did 5 weeks worth of pills and there are only 30 pills, so when the meds show next month I will fill the rest of the boxes.

Spoke with Jay about the rodent problem we have outside. There was bird feathers everywhere and rabbit fur... gross

After Jean's massage, I got Jean ready for her appointment at Way Cool. Arrived at the salon at 2pm. The salon is more ghetto than Jean explained, but her hair turned out great and it is cheaper than Mane attraction. I vote that she keeps going there, Liz does a great job.
Our plan was to get Jean into Ashley's nail salon, but we decided to stop for coffee and brownies and by the time we finished at Coffee Bean is was already 4:30pm so we came home. Will do nails tomorrow.

Jean's calf is really bothering her today, I don;t know how she pulled it but she is in alot of pain. We are going to Farooqui's tomorrow for more blood tests and a Coumadin check. I spoke with Farooqui this afternoon to ask about the dosage of Coumadin Bill should be taking. He told me based on the tests his office ran on Friday Nov. 2- Bill is anemic and Dr. F wants to know where the blood is going. He told me to come in tomorrow for stool cards and more tests. He also asked me to check Bill's stools for blood. I asked Bill to save his BM's so that I could see if there was any blood. Bill told me he didn't see any on the toilet paper and I did not see any blood of any kind. Stools were also not black. I will relay the info to Farooqui tomorrow.

On schedule for tomorrow, we will leave the house by 12pm- Farooqui's

2:45pm Dr. Khaled chemical stress test.

??? mani/pedi after
Thanks Charlae for staying late, I really appreciate your help.

NOVEMBER 3RD AND 4TH JENNIFER

Arrived here and Melissa had filled me in on all the details of the week, had already spoke to Ruth and Wedad regarding Bill, reviewed all the information, I'm really glad Ruth took Bill a few months ago to Dr. F and talked about the hot flashes Bill was complaining, of and would think he would have suspected the defrib. I have never heard of the control being set to level 9 from what I know the shock will knock you to the ground when it occurs. I'm glad he is getting an echo so we can see the relationship with the pacer. I am off of school this week, so if anyone needs some extra help, or want me to sit with Jean or take Bill just let me know and I can help out. Checked out Bill's side, he said it was sore but that all the interventions Melissa did was helping him out. He really likes to use the new walker, and it helps him out to stand. I gave him his pain med, ultram and rubbed bengay on the side. Dr. F put him on a restricted activity chair to bathroom and back, so I brought their meals into the room for them.

Jean doing really well, gave her a really good shower, changed her bedding as she had an accident last night. Made all the beds, finished up the laundry and emptied all the cans around the house. Emptied the dishwasher and refilled it. Asked Bill if he would like to take a shower, and wash up and change his clothes, told him I would stay with him the whole time, he said maybe later, so I left all clothes clean out for him and his toothbrush shaver all set up to remind him.

Cookie did call, whoops I missed it, lol I really did, it was during my shift change with Melissa, she told Cookie we would have Jean call her back, I'm sure its just to get in on some shopping. I don't know what to do about Cookie either, she has been friends with Bill and Jean along time, and Jean does ask to call her, but like Ruth said with all the upcoming appts we have to make Bill our first priority. I bought a large calender that I will bring with me that we can list out up coming MD only appointments and plan ahead to remind us of the defib check. I have never heard of a defib getting checked every 3 months I don't know if its due to the age of it or the brand. So we will need to see the results of the epinephrine stress test. I mean he has arrhythmia , so he is not going to have a patent heart rhythm but between the two implants he should be at least regular.

Jean wants to attend the princess party for Grace, she wants to dress up like the Queen Bee as she said or Queen Mum, I forget, anyway, this idea is less exciting to Bill, so if Jean thought that Chris was going and could maybe take her. I didn't know if it was an adult party also? and Jean said she agreed that maybe Amanda sent it out just to show Jean what they are doing for the bday, so Jean said Amanda can come by the house Sat or the Monday after the party to get Graces myriad of gifts.

Tried calling Dudley Jean left a message for him, Also called Susan and Mary Corbin.

I'm going to take Bill Friday to the MD and bring that over priced coumadin machine, I need to have the controls run on it so that it can be more accurate. After Jean is going with Melissa to have her nails done, since Dr. F will be quick I will take Bill to V's to have his shave and Hair done.

gobble gobble

november1st evening -november 2nd melissa

The evening started as a uneventful one , Bill was complaining of side pain , i asked him if he wanted to go to the ER , he said no but was thankful that we were going to faroqui tomorrow. I gave Bill Tylenol for the pain , put on bengay and, gave him a beanbag heat treatment several times through out the night.
12:30 AM -On the way to the bathroom bill tripped , and needed help up , he was not hurt. However he was very restless, he asked for sleep medication , i gave him one over the counter sleeping pill. he finally dosed off at 1 AM.Before leaving their room i moved all possible objects that can /may be stumbled upon, including the chair in bills bathroom that he had banged into that caused his injury.
Bill went to Dr Faroqui at 1030 am to have his coumidin levels checked, they had went down to a good range of 1.4. His side was getting worse so faroqui checked him, and did some xrays .
The diagnosis, was that bill"probably"had fractured a rib , but due to the excessive fatty tissue around that area they were unable to make a definitive diagnosis. They also tested his kidneys to make sure that he hadn't injured them in the fall. They were fine.
Bill is on anti inflammatory pills(celebrex) 1 x per day for 3 days , they also gave him extended release pain meds to be taken at night , (1 per day).He is not to do any activity till he is better , only walking to the bathroom .he needed help up and to dress, more than usual. he is now napping it is 3 pm, he took one pain pill when he got home from the doctor today, after today they are to be taken at night , as i mentioned before.

November 1- Ruth

Very quiet night, both Bill and Jean slept well and there were no further bowel attacks for the rest of the day and night. Spoke to Melissa last night and Cookie. Cook is canceled for the next couple of weeks.

Breakfast, french toast, eggs and fruit. Cleaned up their room, emptied trash cans, cleaned kitchen and laundry room. Made phone calls. Called Liz, Jean's hair appointment has been moved from Thursday to Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. That is the same day I am taking Bill to the lab for a thorough blood work up, so I am not sure if he will feel well enough to go out for the afternoon too. I plan to take Jean to get her nails done afterwards, could be a long day for Bill.

Scheduled an appointment for Jean at Dr. Lesuer for Nov. 21 at 3:20pm, the spots on her face are very itchy and she is bothered by them. Her next appointment wasn't until January and that may be tooo long to wait, better to be safe.

Got Jean showered and dressed for John, John was here early and they are now working upstairs together.

I am going to start using the calender option on the gmail account so that everyone can see what is on schedule for Bill and Jean. If you open up the was.caregivers account, there is a calender tab in the upper left hand corner. I will post any upcoming appointments there. I think it may be easier than trying to up date here and then later having to look thru each entry to find dates and appointments.

Spoke with Charlae about potentially needing her help more in the next couple of weeks and she said she would contribute as much as possible. She will be here tomorrow to take Bill to his Dr. Farooqui appointment and I think it is a good idea if she could then take him over to V's for a haircut and a shave, he is in desperate need of both.

Groceries here and put away... I forgot the coffeecake though.
